Welcome to motherhood, Sally...
On October 27th, 6:01 am, I became officially a new mom. :) That explains my absence - I took two weeks off at work, and when I came in today I came with baby in tow. It's been a busy yet strangely boring two weeks. After we settled into the routine, I find myself with not much to do in his nap times (which ranges from 2 - 4 hours) in the day, and talking to myself. That's when I knew I had to go back to work at least a day a week to retain my sanity. Geez, how did women two generations ago do this?
Needless to say, I haven't had much energy to cook (running off to calm a crying infant in the middle of cooking can be quite dangerous, so I'd rather just nuke meals or reheat things in the oven) but I will try as much as I can to keep this blog up to date as soon as I can. Meanwhile, enjoy the pictures. :)

Sally, you do excellent work in all things!
Congratulations to you three.

I forgot this part, courtesy my old departed fren, Mr. Ono:
Artist: John Lennon Lyrics
Song: Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy) Lyrics
Close your eyes,
Have no fear,
The monsters gone,
He's on the run and your daddy's here,
Beautiful,
Beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful Boy,
Before you go to sleep,
Say a little prayer,
Every day in every way,
It's getting better and better,
Beautiful,
Beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful Boy,
Out on the ocean sailing away,
I can hardly wait,
To see you to come of age,
But I guess we'll both,
Just have to be patient,
Yes it's a long way to go,
But in the meantime,
Before you cross the street,
Take my hand,
Life is just what happens to you,
While your busy making other plans,
Beautiful,
Beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful Boy,
Darling,
Darling,
Darling [Curtis Harry Jennens]. ;~)

Hello new Mom!! I hope you are having a go at breastfeeding. I recommend that you just go with the flow for now regarding the 4 hr nap time and night wakings. When your little one is approximately 6 to 8 wks old, you can shorten his naps to 1 hr and 30 min. TRy this.
E- eating (milk of course)
A- activity (change diaper, play a lil
S-sleep (day naps)
Posted by: aNDre'S nOeLLe | November 16, 2006 04:40 PM
E- eating (milk of course)
A- activity (change diaper, play a lil
S-sleep (day naps)
Y- YOUR TIME!!
A 3 hour EASY routine throughout the day that starts at about 7am. So it would go like this.
7-E
7:30-A
8-8:30-S
YOU TIME
10-E
10:30-A
11:00-S
1PM-E
2:30-A
3:30-S
5-E
5:30-A- (bath, massage)
7-E (clusterfeed here)
7:15- A (a short relaxing activity)
7:30-S
Last is a dreamfeed at 10pm. A dreamfeed is a breast or bottlefeed without waking your baby. You just simply pick him up without waking him and breast/bottlefeed. This is to tophim off for the night and might but you both extra hours of sleep. EASY is not to be followed at night. IN case your little one wakes during the night (very common at this age) IT's S immediately afterwards.

Thank you everyone! We've been having a whole lot of fun. The last 3 weeks feel like one big, long feeding session, with nap times in between.
Of course, I heard from many mothers about the night feedings, and the colic, and the gassy sleep fits (where he grunts in his sleep) but nobody told me about the real cute stuff - like the way he likes to sleep in the same position I do. :)

1st of all, congrats...
but I'd like to comment on a few lines of your blog...
>It's been a busy yet strangely boring two weeks.
did you say the word "boring"? I never felt that way when my wife wife was working out, and I'm working at home (i'm a programmer/webdeveloper) to take care of our first born...
>After we settled into the routine, I find myself with not much to do in his nap times (which ranges from 2 - 4 hours) in the day, and talking to myself.
"not much to do in his nap times" That's when I knew I had to go back to work at least a day a week to retain my sanity. Geez, how did women two generations ago do this?
it's either you have problems, or you don't respect how your mom who took good care of you...
in the end, my apologies should I have hurt your feelings in any way...but I have a belief that a mom's love is above all things...

If the baby is just a week old, they cry of discomfort, wet, hungry, or something else, but basically they sleep long. Thats the time you can look at him so quite and peaceful in his crib, content, you may smile, cry, of joy. Being a Mom is a 24/7 job, but the happiness it offer is a lifetime. Got two of my own, they're big now but I can't help to still baby them. Im happy for you to bring into this world a healthy baby boy.

Hello Sally,Congrats! I Just fell sorry that you have to go back to work in such a shorth period " 2 weeks"?I had a baby his now 2 and half but I,m quite lucky my maternity leave is up to 6and half months,so I really enjoyed how it feels like to be a MUMMMM I love hin so much I love watching him every seconds, every moves he make every smile while his asleep, how he enjoys his bath everything I just love it sooo much!!Make the most of it Sally while they are still a baby I'll tell you when they@re about 2 yrs, they say No mummy if you kiss or hug them Its nice though as at this age they will start saying I love you mummy!!!The best part of motherhood is if you have a very loving hubby, very supportive and very loving to your baby.I really enjoy it when my hubby carry me in and out of the bath few days after I gave birth as I have so much discomfort so a nice warm aroma bath is his idea.Ifeel so special as my baby.

Hello new mom! Congratulations! That was amazing! But I just noticed few of your lines were quite weird…”It’s been a busy yet strangely boring two weeks” How come you got boring with your little angel?..Looking at him/her while having sleep, talking with them in a silent way is really a pleasure and could truly relieve the stress and energy that burst out. I’m not yet married and obviously I don’t have kids and I pretty envy you dearest mom.. How I wish to be a mom soon. Absolutely, I’ll enjoy and treasure every second to be with my baby.

Webby/ Two words. She didn't. So let's not go there, k? :)
Tiring - because it is. Boring - because he had jaundice and he slept a LOT more than even normal new-borns do. He was very unresponsive and I had to set an alarm for myself so as to wake us both up to feed him.
Now that he's more awake, he's a lot more fun to play with. :) Today, for example, he first peed, then poopped all over his changepad in the middle of a diaper change. *sigh* I don't think that happens to parents often at all...he's a special one.

Bebijune, your breastfeeding acronym is AWESOME!!! I will uuse it!! Jamie, shut up!! It aint justy sittin all day!! What the hell do u know!! Sally, things as you have noticed are settling!! Be sure to watch your babies cues. Beware of strict scheduling and I would go for a more structured routine so that ur lo knows what to expect during the day. Babies thrive on routine. They do not like surprises and studies have been shown that this is true. I hope you are BREASTFEEDING!!! IT's your right as a Mother and believe me, NOTHINg will ever make you feel as close as when you are looking into your childs eyes while you are feeding him and know that he is getting perfect nutrition and love from Mommy.

Hi Sally,
Congratulations! this is my first time to really sit down and check out what is there in friendster. Im so happy for you! Being a Mother is such a gift. Now you got 2 roles, a wife and a mother. I know its not a smooth journey all the time and im with you! Im 31 years old and i got a step son whose 11 years old. Its not easy to be a mom and a wife...
Cooking becomes my hobby since then...and i became passionate with it, as they say A FOOD WITHOUT A SOUL , IS PLAINLY A MEAL... SO BETER get back to your cooking when the baby is big enough. And yes, we need to go out of the mundane days being stucked in the house.I'm a very career oriented person but its been 3 months for now i take some time for my family.
Anyway, enjoy each day and be creative....make sure to do something worthwhile...like making your own cards for your friends rather buying .

I was thinking to myself "No, surely that can't be the same Sally I've talked to on the Friendster forums"... sure enough, it is! Apologies for the late congratulations but better late than never hey? :) Hope the lil' one doesn't cause you too much trouble :P. Remember when the baby gets older to introduce him/her to classic adventure games like the Secret of Monkey Island and Sam and Max Hit the Road ;).

You "officially" became a mom? How does one do that? Can a person "unofficially" become a mom too?
I both officially and unoffically congratulate you, Sally.

Hi Sally!it's Jasmin 22....i got curios with what you wrote here...to think that we are in the same situation...i'm also a new mom, Oct.12,2006, to a baby boy, Kyan......supposedly my due date was on 27 Oct. then the baby was 2 weeks early....being a mom is kinda tiring but fun...specially now that my son starts to respond and smile whenever we talk to him...it gives a wonderful feeling...i dont mind anymore if i dont have enough sleep.sometimes when he sleeps longer, i always want to wake him up and even stay awake at night time feeding him...its really great to be a mom...
give my kisses to your baby...

Just browsing by.
I don't know how you do it! I am turning 28 myself and am terrify of having a baby. The idea of it just sends shiver up my spine. Right now, I am more fond of a dog than a baby. My husband is not much of a help either. He doesn't want any. We almost had one when we were younger but we both chicken out. So I find you quite brave and lucky at the same time.^^
Good Luck!

hi sally,
im not surprised what you go through because I recently just gave birth to my second child and I'm barely keeping my sanity together. Adjusting with my eldest and a newborn can make you go nuts but then if it weren't for my husband then I would have gone more nuts! I also wonder how mothers back then many generations ago can give birth naturally one child after another until they had a total of 10 kids like my grandmother. Neways congratulations and more power to all mothers out there such as us!

Posted by: Rose Lovely Ann | January 14, 2007 04:16 AM
Dear Sally,
Its a very good blog.
Let me tell you about myself, I had a baby boy last August 9, 2005 at 6:01 pm as well. It was unexplainable day for me. I was fine until 4 months then i started to feel depressed and sad and lonely. And it was not nice feeling. I was crying all the time and i just don't know why i cried. I was not happy and i cannot figured out why. I was sad that me and my husband decided to go back to cebu philippines and maybe after that i will be fine, but when i was in cebu, i found out my granny was in comma for 3 weeks already! Then i went back to Vietnam with the worst feeling i ever had. Then after a week my dad from cebu fone that my granny died. And it was just the end of the world for me. I was struggling a lot, can't sleep, can't eat, can't do anything!!!I was totally feeling sick of myself, always thinking of killing myself or jump in to die. I was completely out of my senses. Me and my husband not talking much because i refuse to talk. Again my husband book a holiday for the 3 of us to bangkok to make me feel better, but again i come vietnam with the same feeling. Then with another try, follow up with that holiday, we book another holiday just in one of the province in vietnam. Again...it was not helping me. Instead it makes my life so miserable all the time. My husband has been asking me what i want in life, i couldn't answer this. I don't know what i want in life??But the more i think about it, the more i begin to see the reality. One night i put my little one to sleep and watching him to sleep make me feel guilty, that his life is so innocense and has no clue of whats going on. Later i realized i can't go on like this forever, i have a son, he will depend on me in almost everything, and for me to make decision of leaving my husband and go back to cebu and live there forever, it makes me so guilty. To be honest i want to go back to cebu and live there, i know i can't, not this moment, bec my husband got a very good job in here, but i cannot stop thinking about it. Or maybe thats what i want in life! But i was wrong, my son is the most important thing in my life, i cannot risk making stupid decision that
could ruin his future. Also i realized i need to do something, and i did go back to work, and still working now. which is hard as well, balancing both work and motherhood. But i think i am more happy now compared before. And now i think i am beginning to wear a smile on my face, which makes my husband happy as well. I was just thinking i cannot be feeling sick of myself forever! So now its new year, i will try to be happy as i can. Its a struggle for me, sometimes i am happy and sometimes can be sad as hell.
But will try this year!
goodluck to me
Jennifer
